THE CITY

When a novel coronavirus turned deadly, the world stopped spinning. In shock, fear, and paranoia, people isolated themselves from friends, family, and the lives they once knew. They traded social interaction for safety, something to control during uncontrollable times. With this isolation came distance, with a six foot minimum. Businesses closed, boarding up once inviting facades. Public spaces grew vacant, dying without their vibrant inhabitants. San Francisco had never seemed so lifeless. A metropolitain ghost town.

COVER UP

Breaking confinement meant exposure. Once mundane tasks were tainted with the possibility of illness. Every surface came with the possibility of an invisible threat, even the air wasn't safe anymore. People isolated their emotions from the world, and hid their faces behind a mask. Solitude or safety? Which would you choose?

DISTANCE

Mandatory separation became habitual. Isolated people assembled into bubbles, creating exclusive social circles limited to those most dear. Who was essential? Who was left behind? Deliberation created distance between the included and parted.
